PA Forward

The Pennsylvania Library Association 21st Century Literacies Initiative, PA Forward, was created to help libraries be the community centers of information, technology and learning that will benefit the communities they serve.  To do this libraries in Pennsylvania are promoting the essential 5 Literacies.

The Cumberland County Library System's website has been updated to help promote these literacies with the library's resources.

Basic (gold):  Reading is paramount.  It is also the foundation for all the other literacies.  These resources help with learning to read, finding good reading, resources for those who need special help reading as well as places to discuss what you've been reading.

Information (blue): Digital knowledge is promoted to ensure that all Pennsylvanians are able to use online resources and current technology to improve their lives.

Civic and Social (orange):  These resources promote the knowledge and skills that are required to participate and contribute to your local communites.  There are also lots of fun ways to interact with your community!

Health (purple):  This icon will lead you to information that will allow you to manage your own well-being as well as be able to be effective partners with your healthcare provider.

Financial (green):  Being an informed consumer helps not only individual citizens, but communities, small businesses and organizations.  These resources help prepare you for higher or continuing education, locating a good job as well as information to help you make decisions about your money.
